The goal of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is to ensure that fisheries and aquaculture activities contribute to long-term sustainable environmental conditions that are required for economic and social development. Common fisheries policy should contribute to increased productivity, an adequate standard of living in the fisheries sector, stabile markets and should ensure resource availability and affordability to consumers at reasonable prices.
The Republic of Croatia as a full-fledged member of the European Union is entitled to the use of funding from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), the European Union financial instrument for assistance in achieving the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy for the 2014-2020 programming period.
Objectives of the programme are: to promote a competitive, environmentally and economically sustainable and socially responsible fisheries and aquaculture, balanced and inclusive territorial development of fisheries and aquaculture areas and to foster the development and implementation of the Integrated Maritime Policy of the European Union.
Within the Operational Programme for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Republic of Croatia has, in the 2014-2020 programming period, at its disposal EUR 252,643,138 from the EMFF.
