The “Slavonija, Baranja and Srijem Project“ was launched to provide 2.5 billion euros (18.75 billion kunas) from EU funds exclusively for projects in the five Slavonian counties. Funds for investments in entrepreneurship, agriculture, education, health, research and development, water supply and drainage, cultural and natural heritage, transport sector, inland waterways and energy have been provided under existing operational programs and rural development program in the financial period 2014- 2020.
The Slavonija, Baranja and Srijem project involves the implementation of several new measures, most importantly giving projects in less developed counties the advantage of co-financing through direct allocations, as well as the opportunity to earn additional points when selecting projects in open grant applications.
This project provides a more focused approach to the use of EU funds in order to ensure the maximum absorption of EU funds in the Slavonian counties and to significantly strengthen the capacities of stakeholders at local and regional level for preparing and implementing projects in this financial period. More important goal is to create the preconditions for the establishment of a specific regional ‘Operational Program for Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem’ in the next Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027.
In order to enable faster and more efficient use of European Structural and Investment Funds, measures such as the production of a new model of development index, forming a poverty map and multiple deprivation indices and the development of an analytical basis for the “Slavonija, Baranja and Srijem Project” for redefining statistical regions in the new financial period.
Through the Competitiveness and Cohesion Operational Program, Effective Human Resources, the Maritime and Fisheries Operational Program and through the Rural Development Program, 63.08% of the funds, or 11.8 billion kunas, have been contracted so far under the “Slavonija, Baranja and Srijem Project”.
